Kimi Ni Todoke (Reaching You) was one of my earliest manga. Back when I was just discovering the world of shoujo manga, having only read action packed shounen before. The manga had instantly got me hooked. It was a whole new kinda feel. Soft, light romance with refreshing characters and a heroine who constantly made me nervous for her sake.
Recently the manga had a huge development after quite a slow phase. Don't want to possibly spoil anything, let's just say it made a lot of fans very very happy. Now, between this development and the time I started this manga (ongoing manga) I have managed to read some 200+ shoujo and other genres as well. And I thought I'd seen it all. Well to be honest I can't blame myself. A lot of those manga had plots that got very repetitive. I continue reading though since the way they're written differs. oh but some of them are pretty much identical and I was beginning to worry if shoujo simply didn't do it for me anymore. And that I'd grown up and out of it.
Well....any such doubt was put to rest yesterday when I SQUEALED and CLAPPED happily at the development in Kimi Ni Todoke! Now I have a different kind of worry. I'm 25. I'm squealing over a shoujo manga with a high school couple. Shouldn't I be too old for this? Is this normal? After all this time, something like this still does it for me.. Is it something that I can tell people who know me?
I realise one thing though. There's no way I'm gonna stop just yet. I love manga and shoujo is a genre that always lifts up my spirit takes me away to a dreamland for a while. I love shounen, josei, seinen, etc too. But shoujo is that little guilty pleasure that's pure happiness. Its my share of some girly time. So I'll stop worrying for a while...and enjoy while I can!

New Poll!
Sooooo we have a Shoujo manga poll this time! I had a tough time creating this one because I love shoujo manga and have many many personal favourites. I also know the popular choices in general.
I've read all the ones that I've included here. Honestly it was hard to resist putting them all in here. I had to leave out some real good ones.
Honourable mentions- Tokyo Crazy Paradise, Love so Life, Shiawase Kissa Sanchoume, ...oh my god there're just WAY too many!
If you have a favourite that you'd like to mention, do tell me about it, I'm always looking for new manga to read!
So leave a comment!
Tonari No Kaibutsu Kun
Shizuku and Haru are going out!!!
its about time and frankly i was beginning to get confused about why they don't already. The manga is ongoing and i have SOOOO many other manga to read that i forget what happened previously. I really don't remember why they hesitated so long..something to do with Shizuku worrying about her studies too much? maybe.. i don't want to read the previous chapters all over again..
It'll be fun to see how they progress. So far they're just a couple of clueless idiots. lol
Do your best you two!!

V.B.Rose- Can't Get Enough!
I just finished reading V.B.Rose for the 4th time. I just can't get over it. I love shoujo manga and have a few other favorites too. v.b.r is one manga that always always always makes me smile, and makes me warm and fuzzy all over...lol. Banri Hidaka has a happy, light style which makes even the dramatic parts feel good. Oh I hate drama. It gives me a headache. But its great if its done the way Banri Hidaka does it- non draggy.
I love the characters. Yukari Arisaka, the lead male, is perfect. Ageha-our heroine-is strong yet super sweet, she's no pushover.
All you shoujo fans out there...if you haven't read this...seriously....YOU HAVE TO! I kept overlooking it...the name was weird and the summary didn't attract me, I really was missing something. Don't miss it! Its super nice!

i'm not personally good at drawing. i can pretty much copy stuff off other drawings. provided they're very simple, and i can't colour because i'm too scared of ruining what i've drawn.
i love manga art. its unique and so different from western comics drawing style. its amazing how they bring out all those expressions. slight, complex expressions, expressions with depth, they're dramatic at times, subdued at others.
i can almost always guess the mangaka now after looking at a particular drawing style. its a lot of fun, and i have a few favourites.
i like Amano Akira's art style, he's the mangaka of Katekyo Hitman Reborn. That above is his version of Sanji from One Piece..an awesome manga by Oda Eiichiro.
Ai Yazawa's works (Nana, Paradise Kiss, Gokinjo Monogatari..) have a lot of depth in them. her work Nana, incomplete for now, is one of the greatest i've read. its stayed with me and its something i can never forget. i appreciate manga which stay with me long after i've finished them. what makes a great manga for me is unforgettable characters, good storylines which aren't too dramatic, but realistic just the same, and yes, some humour. it doesn't have to be over the top humour, but life has a lot of funny, light moments, and if that's brought out well in a manga, it wins. Nana is a slice of life manga with some tragic parts, but it never loses its lightheartedness. that's what still attracts me to it, even though i'm practically scared of its more intense parts..hehe.
Bleach is one of my earlier manga..and i like its clean art. back then the only other shounen i'd read was naruto. so i still didn't know how much the art style could differ from one manga to another..i was very new to it all. bleach's artwork's evolved quite a bit since, and it remains one of the funnest manga i've read.
i want more than anything to go watch my favourite mangaka at work. and i'd love to draw myself. i try from time to time, but there isn't enough practice. i'll keep at it though! its a great way to connect to the characters i love.
